Paul Latka CH 8. Response

Chapter 8:

I agree that in advertising typography is very important in order to further push a point across. There is certain type that can be used for certain ads that can really enforce a certain mood or feeling that if put into another ad for a different product it would make it look sloppy and it would stand out. For some reason I really liked the typeface that was used in the “Thanks USA: When Johnny...” piece. I like how the letters were not filled in all the way and it made it seem like it was sponged on while at the same time it fit well with the piece.

One piece of advertising that I found uses really good type is the advertising for the Need for Speed franchise, and to be specific the Hot Pursuit game. The text in this piece is used very well because it gives the image a sense of motion and anxiety. I feel like the colors used for the text with the red and blue gradient on the outline of the text works really well too, giving the viewer a hint at what can be expected in the game.
