Katherine Brown - Chapter 7-9

-Chapter 7-
The ad I chose was for a sony camera. It is all about demonstration advertising, showing the product in action. I love the simplicity of this ad and I love that all you need is the strap around the hand to realize that is a sony camera. Not only that, but it is demonstrating just how small the camera is. It gives people a better idea of what the product is like when you personally are using it.

This ad reminded me of a Nikon ad that is also shown in action. Not only is there a hand around the camera to give a person an idea about size, but the facial recognition is shown in action. It shows people the new abilities of the camera and how well it works. The ad gives a viewer the experience of the actual product.

-Chapter 8-
The ad I picked for chapter 8 was the car ad for Infiniti. Here, the focus is on presentation of an image. It maters what parts you show and don’t show of an image. Sometimes you can show just enough to get your message across, and it’s about finding where that line is for just enough. These two ads are really clever because they are just subtle enough that it takes a moment to fully understand the message. For example, the second ad has the keys completely parallel with the ground. This would only happen if the car was going fast, and that’s the point.

This reminded me of another car ad I saw for BMW. It is a close up of two cars, a BMW and a Jaguar. Although it is not completely noticeable at first, if you pay attention you can see the jaguar on the car is turned the wrong direction. When normally it is jumping way from the car, here it is facing the Jaguar car, clearing showing that the BMW is dominate. I thought this was a really clever and subtle way to send a very strong message.
-Chapter 9-
The ad I chose for this chapter was the Vespa ad. Here the ad shows the specific area of the vespa that relates to that specific emotional benefit of buying a vespa. The placement of the product along with the the tagline highlight it’s positive features. A big image isn’t needed for the big message.

The ad this reminded me of was the Bosch drill. The picture is simply a screw in wood, however the wood detail is twisted right around the screw. Though the use of imagery, it clearly shows the satisfaction and successfulness of using this kind of drill. It gives off a certain feeling that comes from that specific composition.
