Chapter 5 - Schober

I really like the Avotte ad using the metaphor of the beat up yellow pages next to a pair of drum sticks. It indicates that you really want/need a set of drums, but have been substituting other products for the drums. Metaphors can be very over done, but this one is clever by showing you something you do to make you realize you need something. It turns a mirror on yourself and makes you the best advertising for their product. Instead of preaching at you, it makes you be the one to say, yeah, that's me, your right. Consumers like it when advertisers poke fun at them in a modest way, simply because if it's true, it's relatable.

I like these ads for Tippex liquid corrector because they kind of do the same thing. They turn a mirror on ourselves to say, yes, we've all done things we wish we could erase. By using Tippex as a metaphor for the mistakes, it is saying to the consumer, obviously we can't erase your life mistakes, but we do what we can.
