Chapter 7
The Boeri ads caught my attention during Chapter 7. I think these ads are effective because they get the point across in a clever, humorous way and without very much text. Although they are simple and straightforward, the message makes an impact on the viewer. "it's your head" combined with headless bunnies is meant to make the viewer more safety conscious. This ad points out the problem, then gives you the solution. The Boeri ads remind me of the Drink Responsibly ads. I found a comical Heineken ad where you see Santa's slay tipped over in the snow with presents scattered everywhere with the Heineken logo next to the words "Don't Drink and Drive". It is safe to say that Santa was involved in a drunk driving accident and now he won't be able to deliver all of his presents to the little boys and girls. This ad is also meant to be funny, but still makes an impact on it's audience. Both ads remind us to be responsible consumers while still advertising their products.
Chapter 8
I chose the Infinity ads for Chapter 8 because I don't particularly like them. I can't tell what kind of car it is and even if I could, what do the tickets and keys have to do with anything? I think this ad is extremely ambiguous and it's hard for the viewer to pinpoint what's being sold unless you look very carefully at the tickets and at the exceptionally small font. I think the creators did a poor job on selectin the font-it's too tiny and I am not a fan of the white. It took me a few minutes to understand the benefit of this car is that now it has more horsepower. I feel like you don't need to search for the meaning of an ad or for what's being sold. However, it could be that I'm not the target audience and this couls appeal to an older man who would know right away the type of car and what's being sold. But personally I don't care for this ad. I compared this ad to the Ford's "Human Car" ad. Again, I have no idea what's being sold or why this should make me want to buy a car from Ford.
Chapter 9
I absolutely love the eCampus.com ad in Chapter 9. This ad appeals to me visually because it is symmetrical and the ad is balanced. I really like how the ketchups are diagonal to eachother because it adds depth and makes it more interesting compositionally. As a collge student, I can definitely relate to being broke and eating whatever combinations you can create in your kitchen. It's funny, simple, and makes me want to order my books and other school supplies from eCampus. Thinking compositionally, I think this Heintz ad is similar to the eCampus.com ad. This ad is also balanced with knife and fork on either side and the bright red against the white and gray background really draws the eye to the product. I also think the ketchup bottle is the perfect size, especially since it's so bright against the background, it carries just the right ammount of visual weight. Both ads are clear and simple, and again, I can relate to this ad because I put ketchup on my eggs and ad hot sauce to everything.
