Callebert Social Media Idea

Katie Callebert- Social Media Campaign Idea

The challenge:

I work part time as a nanny for two little girls that live in Lakeview. I absolutely love my job and spending time with my two little princesses. But, finding something that both girls can agree on is often a challenge. Chicago hosts a multitude of possibilities of fun activities to do with kids and many of them are free! However, many moms and nannies (like myself) find themselves in the same old routine. Going to the same park and playing the same games. Also, it is a sad fact that many kids are just put in front of the TV instead of stepping outside to explore the possibilities with their parent or nanny. It is always a struggle to find something fun to do, despite all the potential fun Chicago offers.
That is where my social media project steps in. I have yet to think of a name for my social media campaign, but the figuring out how to entertain the kids will become significantly easier for Chicago nannies and parents.
After answering a few simple questions, ( on either the website or the cell phone app) the user will be provided with a list of activities that fit the users search criteria. The ideas of fun things to do will not be limited to just Chicagoland kid attractions, pools, parks, and kid friendly festivals. But in addition, in home game ideas, recipes, kiddie science experiments, and much much more.

Who is the target audience?
The target audience is nannies and parents (or grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc.) with kids that are primarily under the age of ten and live in the Chicago land area.

What would we like the target to think and feel?
We would like the target to use the app and website as their go to tool for deciding how to spend the day and have fun with the kids.  We want the target to feel a sense of relief, because we can provide budget conscious ideas for all four seasons. The target does not have to depend on the television to occupy the children.

What media will best facilitate our goal?
Multiple forms of media will be combine to facilitate the goal of the brand. There will be a website that can be reached through our Facebook page and visa versa. On both the Facebook page and website will provide updates of upcoming events and new ways for kids to have fun. We will advertise with local kid businesses on their websites as well print ads at the establishments. Examples of "kid" businesses would include, Pickle's Playroom (a kid hair salon and play place), children's ballet studios, karate studios, toy stores, and kid clothing stores.
There will also be an cell phone app that will be a useful tool that will provide interesting and new ideas of fun things to do with kids.

What are the most critical elements?
The most critical element is the cell phone application. This app will be able to search and narrow down results as the user enters particular search criteria. Results will be narrowed down by:
- Age/number/gender of children
- Budget
- Interests of kids
- Indoor/outdoor
- At home or a field trip idea
- The app will automatically take into consideration GPS location and weather. For example, if it is raining in the user's location, a trip to the pool would not be an option.

What is the single most important takeaway?
The most important takeaway is that parents and nannies use this as a tool and in turn are able to explore Chicago while bonding and having fun with their kids. There are always new and fun activities all around Chicago for children of all ages. In addition, the website and the phone app give great ideas for fun games at home and the backyard.

What do we want the audience to do?
We want the audience to use the app as a part of their daily routine, or whenever there is free time to play or take a family field trip. We also want parents and kids, and nannies and kids to have fun together and realize that fun activities do not need to cost a fortune.  All components of the media campaign are important and provide information to make planning easier so the nanny or parent can focus on bonding with their children.

  1. This is a great idea! My only worry is that it might be too huge a task. Your app could give outdoor/out of home ideas, but if you throw in indoor ideas, you are combining two things that people fill whole magazines with. Just be careful, because there is a LOT of potential!

  2. I think this is an excellent idea. I think it is very helpful if you include outdoor and indoor activities because you are trying to help nannies out and you know the weather in Chicago changes all the time and indoor activities are a must.

  3. I think this is a really clever and useful idea. I babysit a little girl every week and would totally take advantage of something like this. I think the different categories are a great touch so the nannies/parents can find exactly what they're looking for quickly and convenienty.

  5. The idea of this app sounds extremely useful and a quick solution to finding a fun babysitting activity. The app seems to be at the main core of this campaign and I think you have a pretty clear/strong plan of how you are going to implement the advertisements into schools and such. So i'd say just focus on figuring out a great/catchy name for your service and also a way to distinguish it from the rest of the competition (various magazines/websites that also host similar information).

  6. I think this is a good idea and another great way for people to find ideas for activities. I think your audience is specific enough that it will be really easy to advertise and you could reach a wide range of people.

  8. I think this is an excellent idea. I'm sure you'd get a ton of users based on the idea that it offers fun ideas to do with the kids. Although Hannah makes a good point with that it is a lot of information, I think it's definitely manageable and I also believe that although you may limit it to the Chicagoland area for your project, but I could definitely see it being used in other cities too.

  9. This is a great idea! As a babysitter, this would be extremely useful! It would be really great to have the option of activities for different age groups, genders, interests etc. I would ad something along the lines of holiday craft ideas too.
