Dan Kozerski - Craft Hop-er

1) What's the challenge?
To create a mobile application that will further connect beer lovers with facts about craft beer, and a method to gain more information through experiences.
2) What is the target audience?
Beer enthusiasts. This app is not only for people who love to drink beer, but for those who enjoy knowing what went into creating the product.
3) What does that audience currently think?
The audience currently enjoys craft beer, but there's so many that they couldn't possibly find them all. They want as many craft beers as possible put into one database. Also they want quality ratings and comments from like minded individuals on said beers, as well as beer gardens and beer tours. If they're going to spend the money to travel to a brewery or particular beer garden, they should know what is in store.
4) What would we like the audience to feel or think?
They should be furthering their knowledge craft beer ever day. I also want them to feel comfortable booking trips to breweries and beer gardens, knowing that it will be well worth their money, based on fellow user ratings.
5) What facts or evidence will assist this change in thinking?
The community of beer enthusiasts' ratings and comments on different beers, beer gardens, and breweries. Also the creators of the beers will be asked to verify ingredients regarding each beer in the database. If they can't verify then it won't be label "official" until they have.
6) Brand essence?
Fun, helpful, and informative for those who become a part of the community.
7) Key emotions
The app should make the users feel informed, satisfied, and further interested.
8) Best media to facilitate this goal?
This will be a mobile application for phones that support them. Digital ads will be placed on beer and sports related websites. Beer lovers often love sports as well. Also, print ads will be placed in liquor stores as well as bathrooms of bars.
9) Key elements and budget?
The user interface and brewery/beer garden/beer company participation are the too key elements. It needs a great interface that will allow users to input original information (beer recipes, comments, ratings, etc) as well as coordinate events and reservations. Also, it really needs the participation of the breweries, beer gardens, a beer company because they provide the credibility. Obviously the latter is something that will have to catch on; however, I don't think it would be hard because it's basically free advertising.
10) Single most important takeaway?
I want to stimulate the users love for beer, providing a satisfying setting where they can communicate with like-minded individuals.
11) What do we want the audience to do?
I want the audience to love the application, use it daily, and recommend it to there friends.

  2. This sounds like a very interesting app. I am not so fond of beer, but your app sounds appealing and I would actually download it because I have no idea how beer is made or what ingredients are put into beer.

  3. I think this is a great idea, anybody who loves beer is going to be all over this. The only concern I have is that beer is a large market and I feel like things like this are definitely already out there, so make sure to search around in case one is similar that way you can put more of an emphasis on the features that make your app more unique.

  4. I do enjoy beer but am not familiar with what goes in beer at all... However, this sounds like such an interesting thing to use even for people like me, who don't know much. You can definitely go far and make this interesting for people who are wanting to get more knowledge.

  5. The idea of this app sounds awesome, and i think that it would be very useful/popular among the targeted audience. I'd say to research this audience (craft beer enthusiasts) more to figure out where they spend most of their time online/in social media. Sports related sites are a good start for placement, but i feel like it's too broad and craft beer enthusiasts seem to think of themselves as having more "taste" than your typical sports fan. So i'd look to get more involved in the social media aspects.

  6. This is a cool idea for an app... I am not sure if your plan was to include this or not but maybe consider expanding to what bars or stores in the user's area sell specific craft beers.

  7. I'm not too familiar with this topic, however I'm sure there are many people who'd appreciate this sort of service. I would definitely agree with Bridget's comment about possibly including where users can purchase the different types of beer, I think that would be popular and useful to your target market.

  8. This is an interesting idea and I know several people that would be interested. It might be cool to think about teaming with a liquor store like Binnys. People can get info about the beer before they make a purchase.
