Paul Latka- Social Media Campaign Idea

The campaign that I was thinking of doing is something like WebMD, which is a website that gives people advice on how to live a healthier life, and describes symptoms for certain sicknesses. The campaign that I thought about doing would be something like CarMD (change the name). This would be a website that describes symptoms and problems that can happen with someones car. For example, if someone is hearing a noise under the hood they can describe it, or choose it from a list of problems. When they find a description of their problem they can read about possible outcomes of what is wrong. Along with that, it can give the user estimates about how much it should cost, and if its worth getting a new part or a used part. I also want to try and incorporate and after market aspect where users can pick or search for certain aftermarket parts, and it can show them how much it costs, the cheapest place to buy that part, and how to install it. This campaign will be and can be displayed on car blogs, facebook, news websites (such as yahoo), rental car companies, youtube, only to name a few. For this campaign though, I think I will stick with advertising it on a car blog, on car buying website (such as cars.com) and facebook or youtube. This campaign sets its site on anyone who owns a car and has a license. I don't think that it will necessarily offer awards and discounts for using the app, like bellyflop, but instead it will be used to find out what is wrong with someones car, learn something new, and save money, time, and stress.

  1. Knowing nothing about cars, this is a great idea! This is a very orignial idea, and I think it would be very popular. I like the idea of giving estimates too, it would be really beneficial to include a bodyshop locater for all the body shops in your area with different prices for different parts. Cool idea1

  2. Same as above, I know NOTHING about cars so I would certainly use this app. I like how it is based off of WedMD because that site is easy to use and can find what you are looking for. They usually guide you into the right direction so that is important. It can save people a lot of money and teach people about cars along the way, great idea.

  3. I don't have a car, but if I did, I would totally use this app. I hear stories about mechanics and car dealerships that rip people off or overcharge for their service. I think this app gives people the chance to learn what's wrong with their car rather than depending on a dealership. Owners can decide for themselves what route they want to take by looking and comparing the information the app has to offer. Does the app give directions on how to fix the problem as well? Just curious...

    1. Yeah I was thinking of adding a feature like that, which shows you instructions how to fix/replace the part, and or link it to a how to video.

  4. Great idea; you already have an emerging target audience responding to your post. Not too many people are well versed in mechanics so this is appealing to that demographic. Maybe incorporate a location-based service that allows people to send their location to AAA or some other roadside assistance service in the event that they need to be helped. My only qualm is I'm not sure how people will interact with each other aside from the marketplace.

  5. We spoke about this in the group discussion; and I'm glad you chose to go with it. Maybe you could also do features with credible mechanics, people who are known for their car knowledge, or famous drivers. It could be like a series of basic 'how to' videos, based on common car problems. Something to think about.

  6. This sounds real great man, I would just make sure you check to see what's already out there and if something similar exists, make sure to bring something unique to the table.

  7. Cool idea. Your app idea is very helpful and useful and I know my dad would love your app. Maybe incorporating a section where you can search for nearby auto repair shops. Other than that, great idea.

  8. This is a very cool idea. Often when hearing weird things in the car, I have to ask a friend who is experienced with them... It's annoying trying to find out what's wrong because I know nothing about cars. This app would be very helpful and would also educate people who have no time to read about cars.

  9. I think you should embed audio files in the app of the sounds cars make and they can choose it, instead of trying to describe it, it'll be kind of like the PepBoys commercial! This is a really funny idea!

  10. I think that the usage of YouTube could be very helpful to the usefulness of this app. Because people love learning from videos now a days it'd be useful to have a few examples of the most common car problems caught on film so the users can physically see what is wrong with the cars in the videos and compare it to their own car problem.

  11. Can I just say... I started reading this just as the commercial for CarMD just came on my tv... that gets weird... the whole MD thing is a good market... I wish I had an app for MyLifeMD for anything and everything that could possibly go wrong throughout my daily life with a cure. With that said... maybe think of something different than carmd... it could be something as real as iPhoneMD or MacMD so you can figure out what is wrong with iphone or apple products... or it can be a funny social media thing like CollegeMD that could tell you oh with these symptoms you are struggling with home sickness or stress or uber hangover then the app could tell you what to do to fix yourself by suggesting different activities or medicines to help cure whatever it is you have.

  12. I really like the idea and I think both aspects are really clever. I do think you'd have to make sure to incorporate the two aspects really well to make a good flow between the two ideas. You could incorporate something that after you diagnose your car, it leads you to the parts you need.

  13. I think this is an excellent idea. The incorporation of cars.com and facebook is a good idea; it'll help promote the 'community' aspect of fixing one's car.

  14. I think this is a great idea. I think there are many people out there who would much rather at least start out by searching and possibly diagnosing the problem themselves instead of going to a mechanic. I would agree with Dan's comment about possibly including reputable mechanics with tips and how-to videos, that could be really useful.

  15. Sounds like a really helpful website. Reminds me of Car Talk on NPR. Could add in a really great blog component.
