YOUR WEATHER
Social Media strategy (smartphone application) executed through Adobe CS5 Photoshop, Illustrator, and Facebook Pages completed May 21 2012.My new Social Media Campaign would be to promote the new smartphone application, "Your Weather", and the print advertisements that would be used throughout online promotion (i.e. Facebook and Your Weather website). Inspired by frustrations from Chicago's recent awkward weather situations, I have decided to create a mobile device application to help people pick their outfits, hairstyles, and looks for the day via weather conditions. It has been far too frustrating that us Chicagoians have woke up and the weather is sunny and warm, but throughout the day, the rainclouds just decide to make an appearance and visit unbecomingly, ruining the hairstyles, outfits, and overall attitudes that we have throughout our stressful days. The weather channel applications are great, but sometimes the scientific measurements of the atmosphere just don't explain "rain boots and cute jacket" quite like Your Weather does.
(((((MEDIA))))
My media strategy would to convince women who have long days that 'Your Weather' is the best recommendation for looks and styles according to the weather. I would want to use Social Media to promote this new brand due to the amount of information linked together with a user's individual style and interests. Combining elements of information, interaction, and organization, Your Weather is the premier application to get the morning started successfully in order to be completely prepared for the day ahead.
The user would sign in via social media outlet, such as Facebook, linked-in, or twitter. With that, they can upload photos with tags of their clothing options. Although this may be a hefty initial task of documenting each article of clothing, the overall time saved with conveniently 'picking through your clothes' digitally makes things much more portable and time-saving in the long run. That is, because users are able to guess-and-check their outfits and styles on the quick app instead of having to try on each clothing combination. Also, the app will suggest your clothes based upon the weather conditions, quickly streaming options for you in a creative and (of course) fashionable way!
The application has many more features that exceed just stating the weather conditions and suggesting looks for the day. First, this app Incorporating existing 'Google Calendar', 'iCal', or other cloud referenced calendars, the app would sync your tasks of the day to dress you accordingly. Also, being connected to social media sites, the application can be shared in terms of 'interesting looks' for others to discover. The application draws information from the weather, calendars, and the newest version also reads fingerprint readings to check the 'mood' of the user, helping to define a more accurate outfit combination, for the days without much on the calendar, or days with moderate weather.
I wanted to keep the theme consistent and fun. The quirkier, the better. Choosing a few fonts from dafont.com, I used Comfortaa for the directional text ('upload', 'suggestions', etc). This font is clean, contemporary, and ultra modern, which is easiest to read. Secondly, everything that I wanted to come off with as the 'voice' of the brand, I used a more scribble font style, known as dickhop. Finally, everything that was more concrete and just 'background' words, such as the 'login' button, and 'weather' underneath Your Weather logo, was a font known as Blck. I felt that these fonts showed a sense of consistency, yet whimsy within the entire execution of the strategy. Since the target audience was women and people who are usually groggy in the morning, I wanted to use a soothing color scheme with a relieving layout. It wasn't the goal to overwhelm the user with information overload, but rather to relieve their stress and anxiety of not knowing what to wear while they are scrambling to rush out the door. This application and visual appeal is aimed at keeping things simple, fun, and very stress-relieving.
The logo contains the image of both a hanger and an umbrella. I used this simple yet clever technique of combining the two elements together to make a recognizable icon for further branding. This way, people can get a message of versatility and compatibility of these two aspects of fashion and weather awareness.
I think that this project has much potential to launch itself into the world of social media, and the product itself into the hands of everyday consumers. The reason being is that it is simply out to save consumers time, frustration, and inconvenience. That is the ultimate goal of smartphones, right? Well, this app goes beyond that, creating a fun and interactive approach towards being organized and informed. As far as social media goes, there is a great deal of integration that this campaign may have with existing media/news streamers, who look for inspiration and creativity through such feeds.
