Kathie Trela - My Life in Advertising Final

This piece is called "Style is..." and it's a 13 by 19 poster advertisement for myself. For this project, Art Deco was my inspiration.  Fashion and style defines me; therefore, I created an Art Deco-style poster of myself with a quote by Orson Welles that I find truly illustrates what I think about fashion and style. I first drew myself by hand and then edited myself in Illustrator and Photoshop. I illustrated myself to look like an Art Deco figure, which includes long and lean features. That's why I look very tall. I also posed myself like an awkward model because I am pretty awkward and I always try to be a model, but I fail. Hah. I placed the quote to align with my skirt and I highlighted "Style is...Not Giving A Damn" because that is exactly what I think style is all about. Don't care about what others think. Just be yourself. I placed my name on top as the headline. I have many names that I go by, but most people see me as Kathie so I used that name. I added Art Deco-style decorations on the top and added a black border. The back border is thicker on the bottom so it doesn't seem like the figure is floating. Art Deco usually uses pastel and neutral colors, but I used bright and a neon green background because I love those colors and I wanted to give it more of a modern twist. I added a watercolor background to give it more texture because without it looked too dull.
